No, these aren’t real bands/concerts but they are elements of the set I designed for Paul Flores’ play You’re Gonna Cry opening this Friday! Buy tickets here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/148104
The names are all bands I’ve wanted start at one point or another. I haven’t actually made music since my garage band days in high school but I’m always fantasizing about band concepts and names. So far Los Jizzers de Tepeyac has gotten the most responses on facebook.
To accentuate the set I decided to add some street art stickers into the mix. I got a sheet of postal labels and a few sharpies and decided to put down some placasos for my friends. Clockwise from the left are Elena White, Rosi Reyes, Elida Bautista, Katynka Martinez, Robynn Takayama, and Darren de Leon.
I also made a sheet of sticker featuring a pretty heavy anglophile influence. Clockwise from the lefthand corner: Death (from the DC/Vertigo comics), St. Trinian’s (the movie I was watching at the time I made them), the UFW Eagle (y’know with a boner), Morrissey, Bis (from Scotland), and last but not least Doctor Who (my current media obsession).
Hope to see you there!

This Saturday, Feb. 12th I’ll be participating in a benefit for my good friend Dolores. I’m donating several prints for a silent auction in the hopes of raising enough money to reunite Dolores with her family in Mexico. Dolore’s story can be read here:
Peace,

More coming soon!

In less than 24 hours my 31ist birthday will be upon me. In my mailbox today there was the postcard for my next exhibit and seeing it brought a tear to my eye. I can’t think of a better way to close out my 30th year and start my 31st than by seeing my name listed between Jaime Hernandez, my art hero and greatest influence, and Mayra Ramirez, one of my best friends. Today I feel truly humbled and blessed.
My year has kicked off to a busy start. As the last days of my 30th year on Earth count down here’s a short recap of my recent adventures.

Did you know the mural at Playa Azul depicts a gory feeding freezy teeming with crimson mouthed sharks? It’s fucked up! Chomp! Om nom nom!

Instead of doing any 2010 retrospective posts I’m going to share with you a track from my favorite album of 2010. Chilean duo Dënver’s Música, gramática, gimnasia has hella been in rotation since I got it. 2010 has definitely been a good year for Chilean music with Javiera Mena and Tunacola also having amazing songs and albums.
